Terminology explained

RSS feeds

What is RSS?
RSS is a format for delivering regularly changing web content, allowing you to stay informed about the latest news and events at St Neot's without having to visit the website itself to check.

What do I need to do to read an RSS Feed?
In order to receive news updates you will need a feed reader, also called an aggregator. There are many feed readers on the market for different platforms that can be used free of charge. Each has different features, but Google Reader is becoming one of the more popular.

Other popular feed readers include Amphetadesk (Windows, Linux, Mac), FeedReader (Windows), and NewsGator (Windows - integrates with Outlook). There are also a number of web-based feed readers available. My Yahoo, Bloglines.

PDF

Portable Document Format (PDF) is a file format used to present documents in a manner independent of application software, hardware, and operating systems.

The easiest way to open a PDF file is to double-click on it and let your PC decide which default application should open the file. If no program opens the PDF file, then you probably don't have an application installed that can view and/or edit PDF files.

It is most likely, however, that Adobe Reader or another PDF reader program will open the PDF file. Adobe Reader, and most other PDF readers, are free downloads. Once you have downloaded the Reader, it will start automatically whenever you want to look at a PDF file.

Appearance of website

Please note that whilst we have done everything we can to ensure that the website works on as many platforms as possible, due to the constant updating of these you should be aware that there may be times when the website does not appear as it should. Please also note that the website will look slightly different on some platforms.
