Challenging times for the Year 5 maths team!

Four St Neot’s pupils took part in the annual Year 5 Maths Challenge at Pangbourne College this week, pitting their knowledge and wits against other local schools. The day got off to a promising start with the competition to build the tallest, strongest tower out of newspaper, string, tape and elastic bands. The team managed an impressive  tower of just under 50cm with a triangular based structure, whilst simultaneously solving some challenging maths problems. After this there was a round of logic puzzles and by lunchtime the team was in 3rd place and hopes were high.

Unfortunately the relay round proved too much of a tactical challenge and the team missed out on the placings.  The day offered a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to work as a team drawing on their collaboration and organisation skills , as well as problem solving. Congratulations to Henry, Imogen, Max and Georgiana for their participation and for being a real credit to the school.
